Question about a O/U Derringer monobloc of 1934 ?

Post by wildwest »

Hello,

I am a french owner of four O/U REMINGTON derringers; the last one is a "monoblock" (1930-35)
of 1934 (second letter is "C"); but I can't identify the first letter (month)...
The serial number is L75794; can anyone help me ? The REMINGTON DOUBLE DERRINGER book
shows a L75459 of August 1933 (and with "US PROPERTY" at the left of serial number)
Who has a derringer with S/N near this L75794 (and good letters) ? I know it's not easy to
read..
I am searching for the last serial number of 1934.

Thanks so much.

I can't give you the last number for 1934. but I can give you some numbers which might be confusing.
Rem-UMC O/U's #75603 dated BD 1/35 it is Ribbed, then there is #75707 dated BE 1/36 this is a Monoblock.
We know serial numbers didn't always coincide with the date codes.
That's all I can add to your request.

Yes, there is a Nickel Mono Block S.N. 76188 with date code XE 12/36.
I didn't think this would help with the date range for 1934, that wildwest is looking for.
So I didn't mention it.

Thanks so much for your informations, I have read such problems in the REMINGTON
Double Derringer book; this one have been sold as "rare 1935 serie" and "some where
distributed to the PACIFIC pilots in 1941"... I am searching for more informations
in french or english and, in spite of many years at school, I dont read this language
easily.
This derringer has also "High Grade finish"

Hello,

The problem with the last years of the DDs is that they were made, and often sat on a shelf until needed. The letter code would be added at the time the gun was shipped. I have a DD close in number to yours, L75757, with the date code of BL, meaning January of 1942. To date, this is the last known DD that was shipped. Please note that there were at least 361 DDs made after this gun, since L76118 is generally considered the last DD made. L75757 must have sat at the bottom of the pile and ended up being the last shipped.
