I have an old rolling block hanging on my wall and just really got interested in what it is.
O.A. length 45" muzzle to butt
barrel length 30"
The only barrel markings is a P on the bottom under stock
left inside tang is 1497
left inside trigger group is 1497
there is a perfect circle with a dot centered on the right side of the stock
and F.A. carved into the stock
I don't have anyway to mic the barrel, But a 7mm rem mag bullet is sloppy in the muzzle, and a 7.62x54 is too big for the muzzle. I'm assuming that it is a 30-40 krag.
any info would be much appreciated

rolling block age, and general info
Re: rolling block age, and general info
Mike- We need more info. Is this a military full stocked rifle or sporting rifle? What are the markings on top of the tang at the wrist? Can you provide photos?
Re: rolling block age, and general info
It is a military stock, There is no visible markings on the tang or barrel. There is some pitting on the barrel that I suspect was markings at some time. Now thinking more about it it could be a 7MM with 100yrs of cleaning rods down the muzzle, not much visible rifling left.
