Engraved Rem 12C
Engraved Rem 12C
In 2014 (Hawk46) asked for some information on a "R W Baird" that engraved his Model 31. Is Hawk46 still around. I have a Rem12C Mfg in 1924 engraved by "R W". It is a squirrel in a tree on one side and two rabbits on the other, plus other work. Grade a D or better. Please respond. DD

Re: Engraved Rem 12C
Hey Duke,
Sorry to post late, but I was hoping some of the Rifle guys might catch your post, I'm out of my element there.
However, in shotgun engraving by 1924 engravers were still not initialing their work.
I have not heard of a RW Remington engraver of that era, which means absolutely nothing as there is very little definitively known.
Gene M would be your best bet to help you research your rifle.
Pictures would also help some of us maybe tell if it seemed to be Factory or possibly a custom engraving job.
I hope this helps.

Re: Engraved Rem 12C
Duke,
I just now noticed your post. Where is the "RW" located and is it stamped or engraved?
The early M-12's had the serial number stamped on the front underside of the frame and RW was just above it.
I believe it stood for Remington Works. If this is the location of your RW, then I believe it isn't an engravers mark.
As Fowlguner said photos would be best.

Re: Engraved Rem 12C
Thanks ChuckD for the further insight.
If that is the case than that is the Remington Model Code.
In Shotguns the:
Model 1894 - P
Model 1900 - Q
Model 10 - U
Model 11 - V
Model 17 - BO
I believe I have heard of a letter designation for the Model 14 Rifles but it escapes me at the moment.
Hope this helps,
Will

Re: Engraved Rem 12C
I have a model 1900 16 gauge, with markings and serial number Q358000? Does anyone have any info please? I'm selling it for a friend of mine on Gunbroker. First time on this forum and I don't know how to post a photo?
