I recently purchased a Remington new model army and would like some info it has some stampings on the grip that make me wonder if it was issued during the civil war, I am just getting into cap and ball revolvers so I hardly know anything about the gun itself, any help would be great thanks.
PS i added pictures of the gun below.

Hi Rooster,
The cartouche in the left lower grip is an ordnance inspectors mark, so Uncle Sam bought this one. Out of state now but Thurs I'll check the serial for month and year made.

Perfect I really appreciate it! Would be cool to know if it was ever used or just bought and was stored away.
Thanks again

If Im reading the serial number correctly, it dates to November of 1864. Very nice gun that probably saw some action.

Very cool! Not something I would ever sell but what do you think the value is? And is there anyway to know who it was issued to? I’m from Maine so would be cool if it belonged to someone from 2nd Maine.
