New to Remington Society with a question

Post by filledandfree »

Hello all...I want to thank you for allowing me to join. I hope to learn tons from you people, and will start with my first question.
I have a Remington 700 in 17 Remington. The Serial number is G630xxxx it has a J-lock on it. The Barrel is a Heavy 26" the Barrel codes are - REP inside an elogated oval/circle followed immediatly by an x...the other code on it is a Z inside an arrow. The stock is synthetic with a wide beavertail forend and a rubber buttpad marked REMENGTON according to the "G" in the serial number it was made either in 1986 or 2012.
Could one of you fine people shed some light on this firearm. I cannot find any rifles that look like this in any of the remington catalogs i've looked at from 2012, and 1986 is too early for a J-lock.

PS: I can't figure out how to post a picture (help)

scroll down click choose file and then add the file,

I don't think you've found the date codes, you need to remove the stock and look on the barrel right by the receiver on the left side of the barrel, you won't see it with the stock on.

The G is not a date code but it does indicate it is a fairly recent firearm.
