Help identifying a model 5501

Post by JJW »

I bought this rifle when I was a whole lot younger, but can't remember when. It is still in good condition. I am unable to locate a serial number on it. I'm sure there is one somewhere on the rifle, but my tired eyes can't seem to find it. I did locate on the side of the receiver the following letters/number " KC S8. I don't know if that helps or not. Also, as I recall there was a small piece of metal which was held in place by a screw which deflected the spent casing downward. I have lost that plate. While it's no big deal, I would like to keep the gun as close to original as I can for my children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren. Any ideas where I might find such a piece. Thank You all. JJW

S N#'s were not required before the 1968 gun control act. Not all Remington rifles made before that date had them. Try Outback gun parts for the deflector and screws , there were two different styles I think.
