Age of a firearm please

Post by SusanK »

:? Hello, my husband owns a Remington double barrel shotgun - 12 gauge. C - Open hammers. We have and are having great difficulty trying to track down the age of the gun. We know it belonged to either his great-great grandfather or possibly as far back as his great-great-great grandfather. Here is the information, I hope someone can help - PLEASE!

On numerous areas is what we believe to be the serial #/226117
The numbers 3 1 5 are hand stamped on the barrel and stock
Under both barrels is the numbers and letter: 1G4
Under the Barrel is the numbers 7 0 or possible the 0 being a 3
on the stock meganism is the number 196

Above is all the information we located on every part of the gun.

Anxious for a reply! Thank you

SusanK, Your Remington Double is a Model 1889 Made about 1908-1909 there are no records all
have been destroyed. There should be a number stamped on the received that is the grade.

Yes, this does help. Earlier I was able to find out from another source of the model number you listed as 1889 - however they specified it was manufactured in 1902, so not sure where the difference is with your 1908-1909? I do appreciate your reply - I was hitting a blank wall for quite a while. Thanks again !!
