Remington Model 44 New Army Serial 88,781 - Was in used in combat?
I own a high serial number Remington 44, serial 88,781. Do you think it ever seen combat?

The short answer is no, because of the need for research. Your pistol was made in July, 1864, so maybe.
First check the gun for inspectors’ marks, a single letter on the several of he parts. The marks indicate that the gun was a US purchase. The left lower grip will also have a cartouhe, initials within a rectangle. Without those marks it would have been sold on the civilian market.
That still doesn’t mean that it never saw action, because some soldiers, and some units bought guns on the civilian market.
It is possible that your gun saw action, but it will require a lot of research to find out.
