1863 New Army question

Post by 11Bravo »

I'm new here with my first post. At my age I thought my collecting days were over, yet 5 months ago I spent some of my Son's future money and bought some firearms. This is one of them, .44 New Army serial number 70,000, no xxxs as that is the number. I would like to know the date it was made and maybe date delivered to the Govt.
Have a great day folks, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Congrats on the nice New Model Army. Serial 70,000 was made in early May of 1863. At that time the Union needed guns badly, so it was probably accepted into federal service by the end of May 63.

Enjoy your new pistol.

I thank you for your reply David. This one is in fine shape and since I do shoot my modern ROA I may shoot it at least once.

Hi Wayne,

They were made to shoot! Shoot it, enjoy it and have fun with it. If you get some good groups, please post a few pic to let the rest of us know how they shoot.
