Hello,
Many years ago my father gifted to me an orginal 1858 Navy.
I was curious as to how to figure out when it was manufactured and possibly who it was issued to?
Seriel no. is 25876 on the bottom of the barrel and under the grip. There is a "E" on the brass finger guard. There also appears to be a "T" under the grip.
At some point it appears the barrel split. It looks like it was cut down, with a new sight installed. You can still see the hair line from the repair.

Hi Obi,
Your gun was one of the first made in Jan. of 1864. The letters on the gun are inspector's marks, so your gun was a US Government purchase. Unless there is an entry in the Springfield Research files, there is no way to know when or to who it was issued. The cut bbl hurts any value.
