Spare cylinder for original New Model Army available?

Post by Nils »

Are spare cylinders for the New Model Army somewhere available?
A reproduction or minor fitting is no problem for me.

I'd try Dixie Gun Works in Union City, TN

I don't know if it would work but since they're out-of-stock it really doesn't matter.

I'd call Dixie and bend their ear and ask what their experience has been. But if they can't help I'd defer to the forum NMA experts to guide you as to what will and won't work for your gun.

I got one at an auction, at a fair price, fitted the frame right way.

Hi Nils,

I don't know if the repos will fit. To find out write the maker, but I believe that I've read that none of them will fit and function. Your best bet is a parts dealer, probably at a gun show. Or you could buy another gun for a parts gun. Maybe try Gun Broker or Guns International for a cylinder. You can also post a "wanted" ad in the RSA Journal.

Good luck,
Daniel

Certain years of Uberti repro revolver cylinders will interchange & function well.
Might consider contacting forum member 45D on the Muzzleloader forum, he's very talented with single action revolvers.

Hi Nils,

Where are you located? The major gun shows in Vegas (Jan), Balto (March) Tulsa (this weekend and Oct) and some regional gun show such as Reno, OH collectors' shows, and similar shows. usually have parts dealers that could have a cylinder. Post a want ad in the RSA Journal. Gun Parts Corp is another place to try. Please let us know if you find one, and where you found it.

Good luck with your search.

Pietta cylinder will fit right in. Mine was bit longer (.25mm) but timing is perfect.

Hi sig,

That is very interesting. It makes I wonder if any of the other Pietta repos have parts that are interchangeable with original?

Pietta repros very rarely have interchangeable parts with originals. Uberti is the one that has many of these.

I also have hammer and few springs that with minor fitting will fit and function.

Here are more comparison and fitting pics for your analysis.
