I was wondering about the dating of this Model 1858. It doesn't have the "NEW MODEL" stamping like the other guns I see on here. Can anyone give me a date of manufacture or some possible history of this particular gun? It has a cartouche but it's been worn to almost nothing. I inherited this from my grandfather who owned a gun store and I assume he bought it off of someone. Serial number 16932.
It looks like it has an Old Model (1861 model) barrel on a New Model gun. If the numbers match, I'd say that it is a transition gun. Rem was just using up barrels on hand.
