AMMO QUESTION

A Smoot #3 in 38 center fire. Were these chambered for 38 Colt or 38 S%W????........Jim

The cylinders were bored through so several .38s might fit. I believe that they were meant for the .38 short (Colt), but Remington wouldn't use another makers name.

I think you are correct. I do have a period box of 38cf Colt, however the lead had oxidized and won't chamber..............Jim

Jamison brand ammo makes 38 Short Colt. A 20 rd. box is reasonable, just don't do the per rd. cost.

Even oxidized, the lead should still enter the cylinder. I have several examples of oxidized cartridges and they still fit the proper chamber. I'm unaware of the dimension differences between the various 38 cf cartridges so there may be some makes that are slightly larger than others.
