New model pocket revolver
We inherited what we believe is a remington new model pocket 31 caliber revolver. The serial number is 16189. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Re: New model pocket revolver
Bethscharen: Three models of the spur trigger .31cal percussion Pocket Pistol were produced,
approx 1863 till 1873, after 1873 converted to .32 rf cartridge..Approx 25,000 were produced. Barrel lengths 3", 3 1/2", 4" and 4 1/2".
Pictures would help to identify it........Jim

Re: New model pocket revolver
There may be only 2 models, the percussion, and the cartridge. After 1873, all pocket models were made as cartridge models.
There are 4 variations;
brass frame, brass trigger sheath fewest made
brass frame, iron sheath
iron frame, brass sheath
iron frame, iron sheath most made
The first and last are in order, but the order for the other two is unknown. More research is needed for these and for most Remington models.
"Normal" bbl is 3 1/8", but there are 3 1/2", and rarer 4" and very rare, 4 1/2" lengths. Grips wre usually rosewood, but also ebony, while pearl and ivory could be ordered.
