INFO NEEDED- Remington-UMC Express Shotshell Box

Post by texomaman »

I have green corrugated shotshells with the following markings: "Remington Express 12 GA." on the brass headstamp, "Remington-UMC" in a ring on the brass head and "Remington Express, Kleanbore, Extra Long Range" on the paper shell. The shell has a roll crimp. Except for the Remington-UMC engraving on the shell head, this would appear to be a mid-1940s shell. If anyone has ever seen a Remington Express shotshell box marketed under the name Remington-UMC, please let me know. I haven't had any success locating this shotshell box.

I'm not exactly sure what you have or what you're looking for, OR....how much searching you've already done.
But, here are some links I found.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headstamp

https://www.google.com/search?q=REM-UMC ... 8&oe=utf-8

I have some variations of what you've described but no exact matches.
They made MANY different variations over the decades.
I still have some Rem-UMC Sureshot roll crimp (paper) 16 gauge shells I bought back in the late 1960s. I had borrowed a Browning Model 11 Sweet 16 from my then father-in-law and it did NOT like plastic shells, so I found some paper ones and they worked just fine.

I inherited a mixed bag of old shotgun shells from my grandfather. I am actively searching for the proper shotshell boxes which correspond to the different shells. I'm trying to figure out if this shell described in my first post could be a hybrid of components that was used by Remington after Remington-UMC was dissolved. Even with a great deal of online searching, a specific box for this particular Remington-UMC Express shell has alluded me.

After the company reorganized from Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. to Remington Arms Co., Inc. in 1920 they continued to use the Rem UMC headstamp on shotshells for decades. The Kleanbore priming would make the shells from 1931 or later. When Kleanbore was introduced they began using these green two-piece boxes --

by 1934 they went to this style one-piece box --

Just before WW-II they began using the red and green boxes, and changed the name of the shells from Nitro Express to Remington Express --
