700 BDL .17 REM barrel stamp

Post by Jeremy549 »

I am currently looking to buy a 700 BDL .17 REM. I am trying to determine the age and I cannot locate a barrel stamp. I have had the gun apart and if it is there I am not seeing it. Any assistance would be appreciated!!

Should be able to see it without taking it apart.

You can also (somewhat) use the serial number to narrow down the date.
If the serial number has no letter prefix, it was made before about 1975.
If it has an "A" prefix, it was make between about 1975 and about 1980.
A "B" prefix will put it between about 1980 and 1985.
A "C" prefix will put it between about 1985 and 1990.

Does it have all the standard "Remington" stamps on the barrel?

Certain stock styles will also help date it.

If it was a custom build/rebarrel then all bets are off.

From one list I have, there is this:

17 Rem (1971 - to present, 1999 Classic)
