Remington Plains Rifle 50cal w/octagonal barrel (1860)

Post by RelicsFirearms »

I have a Remington "Plains Rifle" (circa 1860) with a Norwich Arms manufactured octagonal barrel which I acquired from the Miami Museum of Historic Firearms around 1985. I moved many times during my working career and did my best to care for and preserve this gun but like me, it shows some more signs of age and now needs a new home. I think this gun may be worth as much as $2,000 (or more) but I'm not sure since there are very few references to a gun this old. It does represent an important period in the early development of Remington large bore rifles and played a significant role in American Firearms History. If you know of a collector or museum curator who might want to buy this gun, I am open to reasonable offers. I have been collecting Remington firearms for more than 40 years and want this gun to find a "good home". I just listed it for sale on the Guns International website and I would appreciate recommendations from RSA members or collectors.
Please see attached pictures to assess this gun's condition and overall value. Thank you.
