Trying to find out how to adjust the receiver plug to either the factory set or the best position to shoot
.22 shorts
Restoring a 1951 model, plug position changes during disassemble and cleaning
Any help appreciated.

550-1 receiver plug adjustment
Re: 550-1 receiver plug adjustment
First let me say I'm not a gunsmith. The cap on the back end of the 550 is not for adjustment.
The 550 has a floating chamber, sized to the length of a 22 short. It is designed to recoil with the cartridge. A long rifle cartridge extends past it thus reducing some of the recoil. At least I think so.
I believe your problem is with the floating chamber. I would check to see if there is any movement, out and in. If not perhaps some solvent will free it up. That's my best suggestion.
