Is there a way to tell how of these were made?
I recently purchased a nice example of this model and can't seem to find much about the TC designation other than it was a trap model. I see it mentioned in the 1955 catalog and have seen several 870 TC versions for sale online.
I've seen 11-48's with vent ribs before but never a TC version. It has very figured wood and nice checkering, which was probably part of the upgrade, a 30" Full choke barrel and twin beads. The owner said it had been factory reblued in a satin blue, which is lighter in color and matte.
As soon as it arrives, I will try to post some pictures. I'll also look up the serial number to get a clue to the date it was made.
