Blowback? issues with 1937 Model 41

Post by jlbirkel »

Today I shot my 1937 model 41 and noticed some powder darkening of the spent .22 case. These were budget Remington .22's. I recently bought the rifle and was wondering if the headspace may be off from wear? It has only burnt the bottom of the spent case and shells are a couple years old. The bolt has some slight side-to-side movement in the gun. I fear some age related problems. If this is true, what can be done to keep gun original? May I need a newer bolt? Can a gunsmith accomplish some work to repair this? This gun has still pretty tight groupings. Any help will be appreciated to keep this better-than-average gun functioning for many more years.
