MODEL 721 30.06 INFO
I recently bought a Remington model 721 in 30.06 number # 215836 on the left side are 2 yy meaning this rifle was made in 1952 but according to a customer service rep thought the gun was made in 1948 I'm wondering if anyone knows good bullet weights in factory loads I'm going to try 165 and 180 as my first choice any info would be helpful thank you.

You're right, they're wrong. It's 1952.eaglefan7 wrote:I recently bought a Remington model 721 in 30.06 number # 215836 on the left side are 2 yy meaning this rifle was made in 1952 but according to a customer service rep thought the gun was made in 1948 I'm wondering if anyone knows good bullet weights in factory loads I'm going to try 165 and 180 as my first choice any info would be helpful thank you.

Personally, I haven't bought any factory loads in about 45 years or more, but, somewhere along the way I settled in on 165 grain bullets as an all-round handloading weight. That way I didn't have to re-sight-in my rifles. The 165 is quite adequate for deer sized game up through elk if the right bullet is used.

I bought a box of Fusion 165 grain and will find another factory load in the same bullet weight then its off to the shooting range I'm hoping for good results with this bullet weight.
