Howdy from Ft Worth, Texas

Post by Mark B »

Hi everyone,
I just purchased an '80s Speedmaster 552 that will not fully cock the hammer after each shot. It will eject the shot round, re-load a new one, but when I remove the trigger assy, the hammer is in the fired position. It was perfectly clean when I disassembled it, so I re-lubricated it with Rem-Oil, re-assembled it and it still won't push the bolt back far enough to re-lock the trigger in the cocked position.
I have brand new 22 LR ammo, so it seems like the springs are too strong to allow the action to completely cycle. The previous owner did not mention any cycling issues, but said it had shot very well and only had shot about 3 bricks in its entire life.
Other troubleshooting involved filing off a small burr on top of the hammer (at the striking face) and a sharp corner on the radius of the back of the hammer, but everything else seems fine.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Mark
