Re: How much of a bitsa is this Military Roller ?

This is a M1867 rifle made in Sweden using one of the 20,000 breech systems that Remington supplied, which were included in the contract for 10,000 completed rifles. The stock is not American walnut so it’s lighter. Nice condition!

Re: Civil war era Remington Musket with an Allin 2 conversion

By the pics, that M1866 has been shortened to "cadet" size -- a sure hint that it is not original, but likely made up of parts.

Re: Civil war era Remington Musket with an Allin 2 conversion

The model 1866 Allin conversion was accomplished at Springfield Armory on Springfield Model 1864 rifle muskets, not on Remington contract rifle muskets. The breechblock is dated 1866. It is most likely that someone swapped out the lock and added a suitable hammer. What are the inspectors cartouches ...

Not a “test gun,” but standard commercial rifle - though made in limited quantities. Read above.

Re: 1871 new york militia rolling block????

Remington made “New York State” model locking system rifles for commercial sale in the 1880s, in both.50-70 and .45-70. Some even had a buttplate with a rubber pad insert. Either was approved for use at military match shooting competitions.

Dan, Side mounted bayonets were necessary when ramrods were used for loading, and only slowly became out of favor.

Please post full length photos, both sides. It looks like an European copy, lacking “brevet” markings so may be post 1882.

Photos of the assembled carbines, full length and both sides would be a help. It’s not clear what you are comparing between the two guns.

Re: spanish rolling block scarf

I know of no documentation that gives specific history on the “Remingthon” scarf, but the misspelling of the name and the depiction of the Spanish-made rifle indicate it is a Spanish government produced educational item. I have this and also have one in Swedish, designed by an identified Swedish off...

Re: Remington contract M1841 rifle

As made originally, the barrels were browned. If yours was later altered to use a saber bayonet or socket bayonet, it is possible that the browning was removed because the current 1861 fashion was bright metal,

Re: Trying to reconstruct a 1870 Springfield Trials Carbine

Dick, If you can find the ad, that would be great. Since the forestocks were "loose," that might indicate that the carbines had been disassembled and remanufactured into something else, probably by Hartley & Graham or some such firm. Since nothing potentially useful was ever discarded,...
