Re: 1894 ejector takedown?
As a follow up - what I said was to remove the action that keeps the forearm attached to the barrels. Then you can get to the ejectors. I don't ever remembering removing the ejectors, or messing with them. I have a C and three F grade guns with them, and all have always worked.

Re: 1894 ejector takedown?
As you look at the underside of the forearm you'll notice two small flat head machine screws, at the top of the action, going through a small rectangular plate. One holds the plunger in place, the other goes into the action. Take notice of the position of the bevel on the plunger - the part that you...

Re: Michigan resources for Model 1882 SXS high grade 12 GA
Marty, why do you think it's a grade 5 gun ? Those are quite rare. I noticed the screw in the top tang wasn't engraved and the wood looked quite plain for a grade 5. Show us a picture or the type of Damascus the barrels have and a good view of the locks. Maybe I'm wrong with my assessment.

Re: Michigan resources for Model 1882 SXS high grade 12 GA
I weekly shoot nitro loads in my 1873, 1882, 1889, and 1894s. Not each one, but one or two of them go to the club where I shoot three times a week. I reload, so it's not difficult to get low pressure loads. Mine are under 8000psi, but there are many loads out there for the handloader from 5000psi an...

Re: Date my Remington Whitmore
From years of shooting a MLing rifle I've grown accustomed to a tight fit to seal gas. For that reason when I use to shoot the brass Magtechs I used a 10ga over powder card, 11ga cushion wad, and a 10ga over shot card that's glued in. I would do it on a Mec Jr so there was some advantage using the h...

Re: Date my Remington Whitmore
I have a 73, 82, and 89, all Damascus barrel guns. I reload, so I'm able to shoot loads with pressures that are about the same as BP. For that reason I shoot nitro powders. As long as there isn't deep pitting I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it. Good luck. Paul

In the past I've used Brownells acra-glass with their black die coloring [ that's included with the acra-glass] to create the spur. Just a idea.

Re: In need of info on a Remington 1889 model
I shoot about 8 different Remingtons with Damascus barrels dated from 1873 to 1894 with my own reloads kept under 8000psi. I'd have to think sometime in their life regular modern shells have been used in them at higher pressures with no ill effect. If I were importing shotgun barrels just don't list...

Re: 1873 Lifter Grade
My 73 hammerlifter has engraving and pattern Damascus barrels. I believe it was built in 74. I put mine as a grade 3 as the grade 4 has more engraving from looking at the pictures in Semmers book. If you're going to be at all interested in Remington doubles get his book. Any Remington SxS with engra...

The Grand
This year Remington sponsored a " Nostalgia" event at the Grand and apparently the man from Remington who set it up doesn't know a whole lot about early shotguns that were used for trap shooting. This year, Remington allowed the M10, M11, M29, M11-48 and M32. Also included were the Winches...

Boy, is that ever a beautiful looking gun. It's just too bad Remington didn't promote their high grade guns more. They don't hold a 2nd candle to anyone.

Re: 1885 BARREL REMOVAL
When removing Remington barrels on some of my guns I have to push the top lever hard to the right and sometimes you have to move the barrels back and forth when it's part way open after it's been all the way open, or down. . What I'm trying to say is, when the forearm is off, the top lever all the w...

Modern shotgun chokes use to change every .005 of the muzzle being smaller than the bore. .005=skeet .010=IC .015= L. Mod [ or years ago skeet out ] .020=mod .025=imp. mod. .030=full Now a days there is also lite full, extra full, turkey - some call .030 lite full and .035 full, .040 extra full Ther...

Re: "Silent Billy" Herr and his Remington double
Great stories. I wonder how many C grade 10's were made. Can't be very many. I prize my C grade 12. Maybe the wife will bury me with it. Naw, she'll just want to sell it.
