Re: re post pic

Hi Cloverleaf,

You have a very nice pistol. A lot are found in 90% condition, but that one is really nice. What caliber? Center fire, or rim fire?

Enjoy your "new" pistol.

Re: Remington Rider .32 rimfire DA/SA Revolver

Hello again. A quick check in another sources states that some Riders were made with the shorter barrels, so please ignore what I said about the barrel length.

Re: Remington Rider .32 rimfire DA/SA Revolver

OK, I’ll take a crack at this little pistol, but first an explanation of the Remington world today. Remingtons are not as popular with collectors as are Colts, so we have fewer people to draw from. Many Remington experts have died over the years, and there aren’t as many “younger” folks getting inte...

Very nice collection. That would make for a very nice display. Do you know when or where he got the gun?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: New Model Navy - 1863 production

Welcome to the RSA web site. Unfortunately, there is almost no way to learn where the gun went when it left the factory. Rem records are non-existent, and military records are few and far between. Does the pistol have a cartouche (2-3 letters in an oval) on the left lower grip? Any single letters st...

Re: New Model Army, real deal?

Hi Cyten, Nice revolver. As Bill told you, the letters you found mean that it was inspected by government inspectors. There is a serial on the tab of the trigger guard which might match one of the other numbers. That might be an indicator of which part was replaced. The grips were probably replaced ...

Re: Alf Reickhoff / Malvern Remington No 4 .22 Need to date

Are there any markings on the receiver? If not you will probably have to consider it to be a modern gun, as marlinman said. If the frame is marked, "E. Remington & Sons," then it was made before 1888, and thus an antique. Since the frame is "the firearm," this gun would then ...

Re: Questions about a Remington NMA possibly unfired

Hi Lidsman, You are correct on what I meant. After the war some guns were kept in storage, some were issued to state militias, and most were sold to distributors for re-sale on the civilian market. Some NMAs were sent to France during the Franco-Prussian War. The government may have also sent some t...

Re: Questions about a Remington NMA possibly unfired

Hi Lidsman, Welcome to the RSA web site. You have a very nice NMA, made in Aug, 1864, and inspected so it was a US owned gun. The "BH" inspector's cartouche is for Benjamin Haris, a principle sub-inspector. It appears to be fired very little, with some of the blue flaking off, which is nor...

Re: Does Remington have a History letter

Hi Frank, Sadly, there are few, if any known factory records. Neither Rem, nor the RSA can give a letter. There will be a two letter date code on guns made in 1922 or later, so if your gun has them, it tells the month and year shipped. For now, that's the best there is. These are great shooting guns...

Re: Mystery Remington

Hi Caren, Yup, it's a mix master! A new model army, with a replaced bbl. The inspector's marks, and the cartouche indicate government purchase. Any chance the number on the trigger guard tab matches the frame? Without marks on the bbl, it's just a guess where it came from. The frame is so heavily bu...

Re: 1858 Remington Revolver

Hi Nate,

Now you have a good idea that the gun was a government purchase. The number on the trigger guard tab is on the inside, so the TG must be removed. The inspector's cartouche on the left grip often is worn away. Since it's a 44, it just had it's 127th birthday!

Re: 1858 Remington Revolver

Hi Nate, Welcome to the RSA forum. What caliber is the gun? If 44, it is a New Model Army, aka, model 1863, and was made in May of 1863. If it is a 36 caliber, it is a New Model Navy, and was made in Sept. of 1863. The two models were numbered separately. The Army had a slightly longer barrel, and f...
