Re: Model 14
I saw that rifle on GB I think and recorded the serial. I remember it well because of all the holes in the side, the awful recoil pad, the 50 cent rear sight, and the fantastic Redfield 102 Tang Sight. I was worth the purchase just to get that sight. I load the .32 with IMR4895 (34gr) but use Hornad...

Re: Forum activity
John! Your point is well taken and I try to respond to any subject for which I have "actual" knowledge. It would appear that most of the postings are "one-time" things where people are looking for information on a specific rifle and/or have purchased/inherited a rifle that has pr...

Re: Rem 141 highest serial number
Since Ken's book was published we have found a many more high serial guns. Right now the latest based on Tom Hemphill's records is 797xx..............in fact there are more than a few with a 797xx serial. The bad news is that those late serial guns lack the quality of the early guns. You are lucky t...

Re: Problem with Remington model 14 in
Sean! Let me try to be diplomatic and state that the description of your problem is scant at best. Based on the first sentence I would say to begin with it sounds like the bolt is NOT going into full battery.............meaning it is not fully forward/locked into position. If this is the case then i...

Re: Remington Model 14 issue
I thank you, try my best but Model 14's are a can of worms, and sometimes it just doesn't work out. With respect to the Model 25 (one of the neatest rifles ever made) I took one of mine apart maybe 30-35 years ago and after several hours managed to get it all back together and through some miracle i...

Re: Inherited model 11 problem
This is the rifle site, you need to re-post on the shotgun site to get an educated response. My dad used a Model 11, thought they were indestructible.

Re: Remington Model 14a serial #C74236
You have the "right guy" working on this for you, send Tom a pic and he will tell you the full story.............he is "the man" when it comes to 14's, all I do is fix them. Funny, my dad did the same thing only he put them in the bloody attic and didn't do right protecting them ...

Re: Remington Model 700
I am hardly the authority on build codes but "W" is for August and "N" was used for the year in 1922, 1966 & 1993. Hope that helps??

Re: Remington 141 carbine question
All the Model 141 Carbines utilized leftover Model 14 Barrels with a variety of markings so all the carbines had the dovetail along with the slot for the wheel sight. However, to the best of my knowledge all the 141 carbines were supplied with a 701-1/2 long leaf rear sight and a high front sight. S...

Re: New member with Remington model 12 engraved
I would not shoot it other than to make sure it works, a rifle of that quality needs to be admired, and "any" bit of wear might significantly lessen the value. It is in my opinion super-high collector grade and quite valuable, lovely gun.

If anyone is looking for a 141 Action Bar cover I just listed another on Gunbroker, not cheap, and I'm sorry about that. Listing was still active on May 11th.

Re: New member with Remington model 12 engraved
That is one very nice rifle and it is most certainly factory engraving, probably an "F" grade which is top of the line. I am not much of an authority on Model 12's but can tell you that your gun falls into late 1912 production...........like October. Your rifle looks to be in extremely goo...

Re: Original or Not?
Gamey! I think you probably know there is not a definitive answer here but anything is possible. There are only two (2) real possibilities and those are "special order" or "employee purchase". It would be a special order or employee with bad taste so "my" opinion is tha...

Re: Remington Model 14 issue
For those watching this, sent a complete bolt with a very close serial, and it worked like a champ.............yea! Doesn't usually work out that way but it did prove at least that it was the sear lock or a worn sear, neither had been tampered with. Happy ending, the rifle now works as it should. Ji...
