Re: 700 mfg. date

The build date BS and the serial number line up precisely with January, 1969. The mark to the left of the B is the final inspector. The 67 to the right is the mark of the assembler.

Re: Remington 700 Identification (243)

Looks to me like a re-barrelled 700 Varmint Stainless. Not a factory barrel. Could be a custom trigger but they can be adjusted and made smoother.

Re: Dating a BDL and John Lacy's book

There has been no re-print of John Lacy's book. Add a search on ebay and hope to catch one early.

As for your rifle, I believe you have deciphered the information correctly. Your serial number will start between 666 and 669

Re: 788 1st month of Manufacture

The date code LHS of the barrel will give you the month of the year built. 2 letters, the 2nd one likely a P

Re: Old 700 Carbine?

Well, it is an oddity. Sure looks factory. The bluing would be next to impossible to match at the muzzle if cut due to the process used. Comparing the serial number to the date of assembly may lead me to believe that someone in the factory had this "custom" assembled for themselves. They a...

Re: Early Rem. 760 scope mount

I've looked high and low and come up with nothing as well. Too bad as its such a low serial numbered gun. Just wanted you to know your post hasn't gone unnoticed.

Re: Reminton 700 BDL Markings on rifle

Honestly I would have to say values would be on par. Depends on what someone wants. It looks fancier than the original but others would balk at the same. Personally, I would rather the factory stock but would hate to see it cut for a recoil pad, so someone won by getting an unmolested stock.

Re: Reminton 700 BDL Markings on rifle

The stock is custom or aftermarket. The metal looks to be factory standard. Remington custom shop guns usually have no assembly barrel markings.

Built in May 1972 using the KW dating. 15 is the assembler. 9 in the inspector. Rest of the marks are proof markings and such. Seems like a production run 700

Re: Ken Blauch has died!

Condolences to all that knew him. Sad to see another hard working author pass on. Imagine the hardships they endured researching so much at the time so the rest of us could learn from their writings. Unfortunately, this will be lost in the next while. RIP Ken.
