Re: A couple of Model 11 questions.
I would never try to shoot steel shot shells through a gun like that. There are alternatives to steel (like Bismuth). If it was me, I'd look for other places to shoot where lead was allowed. Otherwise, I'd keep it as a sentimental piece in a special place and get a newer gun (if you don't already ha...

If it has a longer barrel (about 23 1/2", overall length 42"), W N would translate to Aug. 1966. If it has a shorter barrel, it would be a newer manufacturer. (they shortened the barrels somewhere between '77 and '79) Here are some links to some resources: http://www.remingtonsociety.com/r...

Re: 1964 Remington 700 ADL? 30.06 - factory 20" barrell????????
I've run across one or two over the years in the 20" barrel length. I think they called it a "carbine length" barrel. My oldest catalog is from 1968, but in one paragraph, it says: " LONG 22" BARRELS are now standard on the following rifles: 6 m/m Rem., 243 Win., 270 Win., 3...

Re: New Model 700 .308 Classic
That's good info .... thanks. Another question. Is there any difference between the BDL and the Classic other than the stock? I understand the only differences between the ADL and BDL are the fancier stock, drop plate and 'jeweled bolt'? What is a jeweled bolt? The "traditional BDL" (with...

Re: New Model 700 .308 Classic
When you get the rings, you'd need to determine which "height" you'd need.....low, medium or high. Mediums seem to work best for me. Lows can be too low and you're scrunching your face to the stock and highs can be too high and you have to take your head off the stock to look through the s...

Re: New Model 700 .308 Classic
Does that look like a standard mount to you that most scopes will fit on? I have lots of gun experience, but almost none with scopes. The "bases" (in the picture) may be Redfield or Leupold. I have some of each on a couple of 700s, but I'm not sure which is which. One of them looks like t...

Re: New Model 700 .308 Classic
Either barrel code could probably correct as the .308 Win. was the LAST of the Limited Classics in 2005 (RY = Nov. 2004) (RT = Nov. 1999) I'd guess it's a "Y". As far as scopes go, over the years I've had great luck/success with Tasco World Class and their varmint/tactical scopes in variou...

Re: 581 single shot .22 smooth bore, need info. eastbank
eastbank, There seems to be a discrepancy here. Remington made the 580 single shot in smooth bore. However, I've never seen a smooth bore 581 (clip magazine). If it is indeed a 581, I would think it is scarce. What is it marked on the top of the barrel? ChuckD The smooth bore was listed as a variat...

Re: 700 BDL Checkering
The last year for the "ribbon checkering" was 1973. The straight-line checkering started in 1974 and ran to '77 or '78 (I'm missing the '78 catalog). Skip-line checkering started in either '78 or '79 (it is shown in the '79 catalog).

Re: 700 BDL Checkering
Thanks. Did the early "flat" style safety also change the same time when Remington went with the ribbon checkering? I dont recall ever seeing a flat safety on a ribbon checkered gun. Sometime before that. I have a 700 in .30-06 that was made in July of 1968 with the rounded safety. I boug...

Valuations aren't given on the forum because to do that that would require personal inspection.

Re: model 700 7mm exp
Dan, your serial number is correct for the year and month it was assembled. It has something to do with duplicate serial numbers which I have never been able to wrap my head around. I don't believe that your receiver was 5 years old when the rifle was built. It is explained in John Lacy's book &quo...
