Re: Model 10 Assembly / Dissassembly

I just bought my first Model 10 and thought , oh wow, some help on this thread. But I can't bring anything up when I click on the above info - it's red Xed. Any help ? Would really like to take it apart. Paul

Re: need help for first time handloader

Sorry, got a little mix up. Graf and Son or www.grafs.com has the best price on black powder- it's their own at $10.95 a pound. I get 20 to 25 lbs at a time to save on the haz. shipping fee. They also have the roll crimping tool at $29.99. If you're not in a hurry find an old Lee Reloading tool from...

Re: need help for first time handloader

If you like old time stuff use federal paper shells and roll crimp. Ballistic Products has a roll crimping tool. I use the 10ga tool for 10 and 12ga shells. They also have the best price for black powder - if you deciede to go that way. Circle Fly.com has paper wads. That's where BPs gets theirs fro...

Side By Side Shoot at Lapeer Michigan

This year we're going to a three day shoot - April 16,17,and 18th. We have camping hook-ups, food, and a covered 5-stand this year. On Friday our main event will be 5-stand, and on Saturday it will be Sporting Clays with the steak dinner and awards. Sunday will be a fun day- maybe some BP event or d...

Re: 1874 Side by Side 12 gauge?

Sorry, I had the feeling there was more to it. When he said "rabbit ear" it made me think of my 1873, where as my 1889 is not. I stand corrected, you are right. Paul

Re: 1874 Side by Side 12 gauge?

Remington started making "hammer guns" in 1873. There were 6 models before the 1889, depending on the year. Paul

Re: Is the P51 safe to shoot?

I have one that is my carry gun. The .380 ammo is hard to get - Williams up here in Michigan is selling it for $32 a box. I picked up 4 boxes for $18 at a Ace Hardware that was out in the boondocks- must have been old stock. Mine seems to shoot where I'm looking as long as I don't try to aim down th...

Re: Black Powder Shells for an 1894 Damascus

1894 Remington shotguns were proofed for smokeless powder, even the damascus ones. I shoot mine [ 3 of them ] all the time with smokeless. Because of their age, I hand load and keep pressures under 7000psi. I'm not saying any gun is safe to shoot, especially one that's over 100 years old, but don't ...

Re: Rem 1889: Manufacture Date and Effective BP Load for Dove

I don't like the plastic in the bores, but then without the plastic shot cups you'll get some leading, so take your choice. For a 12ga, I like 1oz of shot and 85grs of 3F. That's a stout load- most like 1oz with 65 to 70 grs. Oh, and paper wads. Paul

Re: shoot a 1894 damascus gun

I shoot three Remington damascus guns, two 1894's, and a 1889. My loads are under 7000psi and have never lenghtened the chambers. Pressures will only go up about 500psi with the shorter chambers. I'd rather see slightly higher pressures than to remove metal in the most important area. Good luck - Paul

Re: 1889 load data

The following is just my opnion, no disrespect to Researcher or anyone else. I've also read that Remington shotguns were proofed for nitro powders. The question I have is, " what were the pressures of nitro powders" back when they were first introduced ? They were a " bulk smokeless p...

Re: Model 51 - Brochure with assembly / disassembly & cutawa

I only got the first page, but thanks anyways. I too just picked up a Mod 51. What a joy to shoot. Trying to use the sights wasn't much good, but just pointing - it shot right where I was looking. And it fits so nice in my hand. It's great for carry because it's so thin, even under a tee-shirt that'...
