Re: 1889 Coach Gun Indicators?
Your 1889 was made in 1900. During 1900 Remington ended the S/N block at about 105000 and then began again at about 200000 and continued with the 200000 block until production ended in 1910. Your barrels are stamped grade 3 as they should be as they are damascus steel. The grade stamping on the wate...

Re: Model 1900 Butt Plate
I'm not sure which butt plate you need. Is it flat (late style) or does it have a point at the top (early style)? In any case a decent repro can usually be found on eBay for about $15 or so. I may have an original one of the early style around. I'll check in the morning.

Re: Help needed with disassembly of 1894 Forend
Fairly easy. First remove the forward of the two screws that join the button to the rest of the latch assembly. I don't think the second one needs removal. Slide the button & spring out. Then you can remove the three screws (two on the metal tip and one near the top end of the iron) holding the ...

Re: 1889 Double Barrel
The '89 was offered in three grades. #1 (cheapest) had decarbonized steel barrels, #2 (better) had twist steel barrels and #3 (best) had damascus steel barrels. Whereas grades 1 - 3 had plain color case hardened metal (action body etc.), grades 4 and higher were special order and would have various ...

Re: Model 1900
I guess I should have listed various 1900 barrel stampings from the Semmer book as well as from my collection. Quite opposite to the 1894, there is no grade stamping on the action body as far as I know -- only on the barrel. All of the stampings below are vertical although I'll list them horizontall...

Re: Model 1900
You are correct - it's not a trap model. The model 1900 was not offered in a trap version. The Remington trap and pigeon grade guns have one unique feature - many the lack the safety. The safety slot was filled in and "hidden" by engraving. The trap and pigeon guns were all model 1894's an...

Re: remington 1894 sxs
Scott -- Given your S/N, your '94 was produced in 1899. In 1910, in addition to the '94, Remington also dropped production of the 1889 and 1900 SxS models. Remington saw that their future lay with pumps and auto-loaders. As for the numbers stamped on the barrel lugs - Remington used test loads of 1 ...

Re: Model 1900- Is it safe?
I'm not quite sure what you mean. There is a post titled "1900 Schematic" which shows a cutaway of a 1900. This might show you the answer. For a 1 oz load I use: AA hull, WWA12 wad, Win 209 primer and 24 gr of 7625. This should give you about 1145 fps at 5000 psi If you do decide to load B...

Re: Model 1900- Is it safe?
What you appear to have is a K grade model 1900 produced in 1901. Remington produced two K grade models during this time period. The K with steel barrels and extractors ($35) and the KED with damascus barrels and ejectors ($45). KD and KE grades were offered in later years. As with all firearms, con...

Sorry, I made a mistake on the pricing. Correct catalog pricing was:
K - $30
KE - $35
KD - $35
KED - $40
They were offered in 28, 30 and 32" barrels.

Re: 1889 sxs parts
D -- Sounds like a well used gun and an important family item. The grade is shown in two areas. First, it is to the left of the S/N on the action body and is also stamped on the barrels just ahead (~1 inch) of the mounting lug. The grade will be either an 1 (decarbonized steel), 2 (twist steel) or 3...

Re: model 1900 questions
Your 1900 was made in 1907 and appears to be a K grade as shown by the LKB stamping. You can check if this correct if the gun has extractors rather than ejectors and has a non damascus set of barrels. The 1900 came in four grades -- K, KE, KD and KED where E stands for ejectors and D stands for dama...

Re: 1889 sxs parts
D -- Sad to say but I've sold all my parts on eBay and other places. Parts for '89s come up on eBay all the time. Also there are several members who may have parts available. Hammers seem to be a hot items as they tend to break over time. Repro butt plates are available on eBay. Is it a grade 2 or g...

Pellet count
I'm a bit confused which is fairly normal. I have an Ithaca 10 ga (#3771) hang tag that uses 4 drams FG and 498 pellets of Tatham & Bros. #8 shot to make a pattern test load of 1 1/4 oz. The information I've seen for Remington hang tags is 511 pellets for a 1 1/4 oz load. The question is whether...
