Re: Help to ID old shotgun

According to the Charles Semmer book, the 1878 & 1879 models shared the same S/N block of 1 - 2400. If I read his book correctly, there were 17 '79s known to him (18 with your example) which would make your '79 a fairly rare bird.

Re: Help to ID old shotgun

The 1879 was the only lifter model that used the Deeley & Edge forearm attachment method. It is also the last lifter model made by Remington. The earlier models used wedges to attach the forearm.

Re: Top lever spring

Your 1889 was made very early in 1895. First S/N from that year was 66017.

Try Garland Jackson @ 330-669-2138 for a spring.

Good luck & enjoy!

Re: Whats wrong with my extractor on this old 1889 12 guage?

I have the three parts: the cam, cam pivot screw and extractor retaining screw. If you wish, please go to my email and we can discuss. jmeier356@gmail.com

Re: Whats wrong with my extractor on this old 1889 12 guage?

Judging from the picture of the barrel lugs, you are missing the cam that fits between the slot on the forward lug and operates the extractor. You are also missing the screw that holds the cam in place in addition to the screw that holds the extractor in place. I may have these out in the garage. I'...

Re: 870 Wingmaster 12 Gauge > Wood screws for buttplate

Sorry about the late reply.

I haven't removed the screws from my 870 but it's been my experience with other Remington arms that butt plate screws are a different animal as they do not seem to fit into the standard wood screw system.

Re: Rem 1889 10 Gauge chamber length? info on BP buckshot l

I have a hang tag for a 10 Ga which indicates 4 drams BP for a 1 1/4oz load of #8 shot. This load was used for patterning tests.

The rule of thumb is equal volumes of shot and powder. Enjoy.

Re: 1889 Extractor/Joint Check Issue

Paul, based on your reply, I did the following: 1. moved the top lever to the right so that the gun would just open and the extractor operated just fine 2. applied pressure to the extractor while continuing to move the top lever slowly to the right 3. when the top lever was nearly at the extreme rig...

Re: Model 1889 shotgun butt plate

I was just on eBay and butt plates are available. I believe the 1894 and pre '06 1900 butt plates are the same as used on the 1889.

Re: Help. In need of Remington Model 1900 forend with wood

I've seen forearms on eBay from time to time. Just have to wait until another one appears. Also members on the board might be able to help. I'd start with Garland Jackson @ 330-669-2138. As an aside, what grade characters are stamped on the barrel? They appear to be ///KA1. The 1900 K grade was offe...

You really need to move this post to the pre-'99 Handgun section. My interest lay with Remington SxS shotguns so I cannot be much help with your interesting questions. If I'm typical of others members, I rarely visit the General Discussion section. Hopefully you'll get better response in the Handgun...

Re: 1889 Extractor/Joint Check Issue

Tried to post yesterday but appears to have not worked. Anyway, after reading this post I pulled out a '89 and found something interesting. When I moved the top lever hard to the right (almost touching the right hammer) the extractor did not lift when the gun was opened. However when I moved the top...

I don't know how they would relate either -- just relaying what the hang tag states. I would think the results would be similar but?????

Re: 1889 Manufufacture Date

You're on the pre - '89 page.

The production date can be found on the Remington web site.

Value would depend on rarity, grade and condition.

Re: 1889 Manufufacture Date

Your '89 was made in 1902. The grade should be stamped on barrels and water table. Off the shelf guns came in three grades depending on barrel material --- #1 - decarbonized steel, #2 (better) - twist steel and #3 (best) - damascus steel. None of these grades had any engraving. For grades higher tha...
