Re: Double Barrel Rolling Block Pistol

E. Remington & Sons licensed E. & L. Nagant Brothers, in Belgium to manufacture their Rolling Block System firearms, circa 1881/94. It is estimated that 1,100 Double barrel Roling Block pistols were manufactured. The caliber is reported to be 9mm. However, I have no idea what cartridge it mi...

Re: 742 problem

John, Let me start by saying I am not a gunsmith. But it seems to me that a light hit on the primer would indicate the bolt is not locking up all the way. You know the fireing pin is free, and it will fire so the head space must be too great. It could very well be that the clip is slowing the bolt r...

I should have mentioned that this posting should have been in the post 1898 listing!
It might have gotten an earler response.

Re: aluminum rifle

1910tm Between 1958-'62 Remington produced the M-572 .22 Cal. in what they called "Light Weight Slide Action". It had an anodized Aluminum receiver and Barrel with a steel sleeve. It could be had in Buckskin Tan, Crow-wing Black, or Teal-Wing Blue. It also had what they called "Sun-Gr...

Re: ordnance steel vs remington steel

I have found this discussion interesting, but have a question. Is there some marking to identify the type of steel used in the barrels? I'm familiar with the REP proof mark, but would there be an indication of Ordnance steel if use? I presume Remington steel wouldn't be indicated as it was standard.

Re: Help identify this double-barrel musket antique Remington

Mike, My experience with other percussion shotguns is, that the rear end of the barrels have hooks machined in that fit under the receiver or top of the lock plates. The flat pin in the front of the stock (fore end) hold the barrels down into the stock. If you can remove it, the barrels should lift ...

Re: Help identify this double-barrel musket antique Remington

Hello fitzmen, What you have is called a combination gun. With a rifle barrel on the right and a smooth bore "shot" barrel on the left. While it has Remington marked locks it probably wasn't made by Remington. In the early days Remington was primarily a barrel maker. They also sold locks a...

Ron, How far back do you want to go? To Remington-DuPont or Remington-UMC era?
I have some old catalogs from pre 1920's, also a few newer ones.
I'm not sure the early ones have the Load Index number listed, I'll check if needed, just let us know.

t2dunner, Where is it marked Remington? On the barrel or lock? My guess is that it has a Remington barrel and was made by a different gunsmith. This rifle is unusual in that it has a left handed side lock. Remington did make the Jenks Carbine with a side lock, but it was on the right, with a tape pr...

zulu In the many years I have been collecting Remingtons I have never seen a finish such as you describe. Is it dull or shiney? I once saw a rifle with copper plateing, but I'm sure it wasn't factory original. With the matting on the slide, I would think it would be hard to refinish without it being...

Ken,
Remington made a 521-T with a box magazine. Possibly this is what is miss-marked. Does it have a target or sporting style stock.

Jason,
I'm not a gunsmith, but if I had this problem, I would insert a cleaning rod in the magazine tube to see if there is an obstruction. If it is clear you should see the tip at the front of the receiver. If it is blocked then I believe the tube would have to be removed to clear it.
