Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

I just traded for my first 722. Its a 300S that barely looks used. It is not drilled and tapped in the rear. Bore is nice and shiny. Has one scratch on the stock and the stock has not been cut for peep sights. Yall let me know what I have, I traded an H&R Handi Rifle in 450 Marlin for it. Was t...

Your Ser # 3878xx would be right in the middle of this list.
Does it have a "P C" or an "O C" on the left?

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

On the above 300S, I wonder if the stocks relief at the peep area is factory. I sure looks like it could be for the rear side scope mount when the rear ring is untapped.

Here is a side rear mount on a Model 70

Is the stock original?
Can you post a picture of the stocks side at the peep sight area?
I will post the same of the 300Sav above

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

Just found the new lowest serial number 722 reported to our list. 297xx 722 300 Savage C TT date code for 4/1948 This is a very clean gun. Rust free. Rear ring has been tapped. The barrel sights are not original. The trigger has been expertly adjusted and the screws resealed with stick shelac. All t...

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

Yours hints of after market all the way. I believe the side of the receiver would have a mark added like a "D" after the model number ( MODEL 721 D) The stock reeks aftermarket. I think the receiver would have engraving too. One curious thing - the barrel boss does not show a dovetail cut ...

2658xx 722-300S D YY 9/52
266xxx
2683xx 721-06 E YY 10/52

I think he means the stock crossbolt. Didn't look normal to me.

Was having a typical talk with hunting type guys. "Best gun" question came up. I never put it to thought much, but I can say every successful deer & elk hunt I ever had was with a 721 or 725 in 270 or 3006. I have carried afield Model 70s (pre 64 of course) many times as well. But neve...

Re: M/720s

If I get real adventuresome, I'll try to post some photos. I did take the .257 Rem Robts to the range today. With the peep all the way down it still shot about 1 1/2 feet high at 50 yds. I kept adjusting the sights so I don't know about the group. The mid barrel sight and peep are often different h...

Sounds doctored. Shortened barrel. Stock could be "B" grade. Pictures?

My Dad and I had two different 30-06 720 rifles. Both gone now. Shooting them was fine. Excellent guns. Those old Enfields were tough and smoothest of action. I wish I still had them Perhaps you have one.

1100 L591xxxV

I just got this 1100 with 30" full bbl and 25" imp cyl barrel. It is all original except the barrels, and in great shape. Googling tells me it is around 40 some years old. I intend to learn to shoot local trap type shoots. It was dry inside, but not dirty at all. I sprayed G96 and wiped it...
