Re: Shooting through brush - .35 Remington

I also read Boddington experiment. What I remember most was that it was a 308 150 gr. bullet that deflected the least. I was very surprised the 308 did better than say the 45-70.

Re: Feed isues with Model 12

Signalman, My advice is to stick with the Federal ammo. As the good old model 12's get older they seem to be a bit more finicky as to what they will feed. After all, these guns are getting old. Also 22's are shot more than high power rifles. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to the range a...

Re: Feed isues with Model 12

In the past, I've had the same problem you are having with a few mod. 12's. While it's true that the problem could be flat nose bullets it has been my experience that most mod. 12's will feed them. Most of the time it is gunk built up in the slot that the rim of the case slides into on the bolt face...

Re: Sportsman 74 autoloader designed like the 742 or 7400???

I have changed a number of bolts in the 742's over the years. The "S" grove in the side of the bolt wears with extensive shooting. When they wear out, if you dry fire them, you can not open the bolt without using a mallet. I like the 742 when it's working. But in my experience you just can...

#1

I have not seen, shot, or owned on of these new production rifles but I have owned and shot an original #1 in 45-70. It was fun to shoot but be ready for plenty of recoil.

29

It could also be a model 29 (built from 1929 to 1933), the improved model 10. My model 29 is my favorite shotgun. It's a little heavy by todays standards but I shoot it better than any of my other shotguns.

laminate stocks

I've heard that the 1st few were in standard walnut stocks also. The story goes, the walnut stocks were cracking at the rear of the action on the top, hence the laminate was used. BUT, I've never seen a magnum in a walnut stock and never seen a cracked stock eather. True or untrue? Who knows.

Don't know about the interchangeability of the barrels but I can tell you that the ejection port on the 3" is larger than the port on a 2 ¾” so ejection is poor at best if you try to run 3" through a 2 ¾” action.

It has been my experience that if you remove the bulge toward the end of the stocks barrel channel your rifle will shoot better. The older Remingtons, in general, usually shoot better than 1 1/2 ". But as shot1too says, try different loads before modifying your rifle. A good indicator for the n...

You might try posting this in the shotgun section instead of this pistol section.
