Re: Danish Roller firing pins?

Are you perhaps confusing the military alteration from rimfire to centerfire, as having RF/CF interchangeability? The Danes intended the change to CF to be permanent and made no special firing pin that was reversible.

Re: Help For Dating a Remington Rolling Block Military Rifle

The photographs help identify the model of rifle. The rifle has the general characteristics of the Spanish and Egyptian Model rifles, of about 1870. However, the Egyptian Model had a long bayonet lug on the right side of the barrel, and your rifle does not have this feature. Your rifle is probably a...

Re: Help For Dating a Remington Rolling Block Military Rifle

Welcome to this forum.
Please provide basic information such as: caliber (rimfire or centerfire), barrel length (muzzle to breech block) and shape of barrel (round or octagonal). Also, is the maker's name stamped in two lines or three? It would help if you added photos.

Re: NEW YORK STATE R-B TIN FINISH

As a long time collector, I have seen VERY few. They were all finished "in the white." Might you be seeing the normal aging process on a rifle that was often cleaned and well cared for?

Re: Strange military rolling block.

It looks like a standard length Remington rifle. Are you sure it isn't.43 Egyptian caliber? The Kedive gave tens of thousands of their Egyptian contract rifles to the Ottoman government as a gift. Also, the Ottoman (Turkish) government bought some Remington's on a trial basis. In the muzzle photo it...

Re: Strange military rolling block.

What are the patent markings -- or at the least, how many lines? Barrel length? Can you post a full length photo, right side? Also, photo of the band marking?

Re: Identification marks

This looks like the standard "Spanish Model," made circa 1871. The caliber confirmed that. The two line patent marking is the early style, while the flat based breechblock was introduced in mid 1870. The rear sight is the Spanish style. The crown stamps are the same as on the Danish rifle,...

Re: Remington Rolling Block Saddle Ring Carbine Identification Help

At first glance, this appears to be a cut down rifle, as evidenced by the incorrect front sight and the place in the buttstock for a sling swivel plate. The forestock is from a Navy M1867 carbine-- these are readily available for purchase as surplus parts.

Re: Need help identifying this rolling block..

Yes, more likely.43 Spanish because the frame type is post 1879. I didn't see the bore diameter listed...did I miss it?

Re: Remington Collection Inventory

Beautiful shotgun! Must have been expensive in its day. That is the 1831&35 patent. French patents are searchable on the Internet. Unfortunately, with the tag removed there is no physical tie in to the Remington collection. Only if you have the original bill of sale, including a detailed descrip...

Re: Remington Collection Inventory

There are several versions of the inventory, and each consists of many, many pages. If you would post the exact inventory number of your "shotgun," and as good a description as you can provide, then I'm sure someone here can look up the number. From the marking you give, your rifle is an e...

Re: Remington Rifle? need advice!

Your rifle is a gunsmith's creation of the 1840-60 time period, using a barrel purchased from E. Remington & Sons. This company supplied barrels to "the trade" as a major product. The lock was purchased separately, as it is a common, mass produced, cheap part. It was then up to the gun...
