Re: RB questions
I think reworked. If the lower tang is the same length as the upper then it is very likely a military.

Re: Rolling Block No.1 Sporter Parts
No way is it a 5. Had a memory lapse on the rotary extractor among other details. First, a 5 would not have the rebated receiver and importantly the serial is that of a 1. The five has its own unique serialization. Nope, you have a Number one thats been worked over a bit. Prominent is that the breec...

Re: Rolling Block No.1 Sporter Parts
A rotary extractor kind of points to a rare #5 sporter...even rarer with a SST.

Receiver Stippling
From a # 1 in 32 rf and serial 7300 range. Its just on three of the octagon flats. Has anyone ever encountered this on a roller and did Remington offer the option? I suspect aftermarket myself.

Re: Remington No. 1 rolling block chambering
The #5 sporter was chambered in 38-55 but I never heard of a #1 but who knows. Lets start with:
What are the markings on the barrel? Does it have 5 lands and grooves?
Know that there are smiths who can duplicate all the above.

Re: Rolling Block Caliber? 44S
My 44-77 is marked 44S and I agree that it is likely a #1

Re: Remington Rolling Block serial# 1206
I'm really curious as I think my rifle was re-barrelled by remington. The action screams late seventies but the barrel is obviously mid to late eighties because of the barrel address. Here's the kicker. Mine is 1608 and has a rebated receiver...chambered in 44-77. The "1" has a tick mark m...

Re: Gotta Be A Fake
Its the prettiest "fake" I've ever seen. Whoever did this is talented for sure. Yep, probably dates in the 90's.....late 1990's. Someone in CAS could get a lot of style points using this in the long range matches.

Re: black powder question
You didn't say what caliber but Fg often proves to be as accurate if not more so and is a heckuva lot easier on the shoulder.

Re: Bore/Groove Diam of 46 rimfire
Thanks! Were the measurements you gave bore or groove? Anyway, the .44 designation fits in with the use of bore instead of groove diameter to denote caliber. All in all it clears the air a bit on questions I've had on potential cobble jobs offered as 44-77 sporters.

Re: 40-50 sharps
Order you some Cerrosafe from Brownells or Midway and go by the directions. There are some how to posted on YouTube as well. A paper towel or rag works fine.

Re: 40-50 sharps
A chamber cast is always advised. It may be stamped one thing but altered somewhere down the line.

Re: 40-50 sharps
Diameter at the breach should be considerably larger than ~.40 is another way. I don't know but I'd say it was uncommon but not rare. Seen more in the #3 rifles I think.

Bore/Groove Diam of 46 rimfire
Anyone ever slug theirs to see? Reason I'm curious cause I'm seeing some roundtops that otherwise look original on auction sites yet they are listed as 44-77. Looking at Roys book its seems highly unlikely as nearly all he shows are rimfires. My 44-77 groove is .451 and thats close enough to bump up...
