NYS possibilities
In reply, it's possible that, (1) the buttstock is a replacement for a broken one on an issue rifle, or (2) the company purchased a replacement or a "competition grade" rifle. If it is .45-70 then it's the latter.

Identifying models
The Army & Navy models have full forestocks and 2 barrel bands of "military" style, and both are in .45-70. The Army has a 32-1/2 in barrel, the Navy is 29-1/4 in. Anything else is commercial, in .45-70. .433 and .40 caliber.
