I would also say there has been some altering with the chunks taken out of the barrel lug in front of the receiver. Ouch!

Jeff, Remington did offer a upgraded nickel finish. Original ones are a little scarce and at times would carry a premium. The best advice I think anyone can give you now is pay no attention to the reply above. John is correct on the value aspect, but the post by Gamemaster is completely asinine. The 722 is an excellent rifle. There will always be rifles that are worth more. Even worth more then a "Winchester"...

Remington employee sale guns will be stamped with a 5 on the side of the barrel. Post pictures. It will be a lot easier to help.

Definatly not Remington done, and definatly not Remington finish. This looks like someones personal work. Checkering looks to deep around the edges as well. I think someone has recheckered it at sometime to. Nice wood though.

It appears that a past owner has done some modifying. Could be the reason that you can not find another.

The only part of it that is Remington is the trigger gaurd and rear stock. It's model 12.
