Re: Need help Identifying this late 1800's Remington Shotgun (Update it's a 75/76)
Your gun is a grade 5 Model 1876 the hammer face is flat and short. There is one thing I see that I would fix is the hammer screws are not original Your barrels should be brown not blue they are fine. You can use # 3 or 4 steel wool with oil will help clean the rust off. You can get correct screws i...

Re: Need help Identifying this late 1800's Remington Shotgun
We need more pictures or detail description of the gun. if its a 12ga. it is not a 1878 Duck Gun they were only made in 10ga. How is the for end held on wedge. The engraving you said tells me it is a grade 5.Could be a 1875 or 1876.

Re: Model 1889 Article
The article states the side plates were color case, nothing about the receiver being color case. Also there are no known factory made 24 ga. guns. Many years ago I have seen a factory made double rifle.

Re: F Trap Gun Problems
I would not fire the gun without the forend on you will have trouble getting it back on you can but you would have to cock that main spring. Are the shells you using factory? You probably have a weak or broken main spring. The main spring tells the ejector that barrel is fired if the shell went off ...

Re: Model 1900 Forend Missing
The firing pins measure 1.020 center to center. I have a 1894 16ga and a 1900 16ga there in the back of safe sometime I will get them out and measure them. I have away by looking at the gun I can till if it is a small frame without measuring the receiver.

Looks like a grade 2 the only thing is the butt plate (pad) is not original. If you want original factory don't buy it.

Re: Want to redo my stock on my model 14, need advice
I would not refinish the stock. first you said it 100 yrs old don 't take its character away try old English furniture polish oil . and never sand the wood it will not match up with receiver.

Re: 1889 Restoration
If you find a Model 1889 with 28 inch barrels check them close to make sure they are not cut off and factory original. Unless that does not matter to you.
