Re: Designer of the 1100 & The Designer of the 11-87

Interesting point. Perhaps due to the fact that the 11-87 is only a minor - although significant - modification of the 1100.

Re: Rare Remington 1100 Prototype? Need help please

Returning to the original question, the 1982 Atlantic model was the only 1100 they ever cataloged with a 32" barrel.
There are a slew of "limited edition" models out there. DU models, the one of 3000 models, the Anniversary Models, etc., etc.

Did not help that their wonderful governor shuttered them over COVID.

Re: 1100 versus 11-87

Unfortunately Remington dropped all the earlier coding on shotguns and went to RS on all. I have heard it stands for Remington shotgun. An acquaintance got a new 700 rifle with an RR designation.

Re: 1100 versus 11-87

All 12 gauge 11-87s used to have the PC prefix. 20 gauge was TL. Last 1100 prefix before they apparently junked all the codes was R. I am not aware of any particular significance in any Remington pre- or suffixes.

Re: Rare Remington 1100 Prototype? Need help please

The gun is a standard Magnum 1100 manufactured after 1979 and is therefore what we call a second generation 1100 as is evident from the style of rollmarking and checkering. The only 3" chambered 1100 32" barrels that Remington Manufactured that I am aware of were for the 'Atlantic' Model o...

It was available thru 2006 on this run. 16 has been in and out of the line up since at least 1952 on the 870.

Re: Remington Model 1100

If you decide you want choke tubes, Mike Orlen can fit them to your gun far cheaper than a new barrel, and you get to keep the feel of that nice light barrel.

Re: Remington Model 1100

It is a standard weight - built on the 12 gauge size receiver - 20 gauge Model 1100. Standard field model, with American Walnut stock and fore end. The barrel was made in November, 1972. The serial number is also a fit, so it is very likely that is the original barrel. It appears to be in excellent ...

They offered a 3" chambered 21" rifle sighted barrel with choke tubes. Not going to go thru 30 catalogs to look further. Good luck finding one.

Re: Last years of mfg for 1100 with RKW?

Change started in 1986 on some models. Completed on 1988 models except some 1100 models. Those ran thru 1990. This was when Remington was hoping the 11-87 was going to kill off the 1100. Didn't work for Remington or several other manufacturers.

Re: Last years of mfg for 1100 with RKW?

It was sometime in the mid to late 80s when they went to cut checkering. The used a different polyurethane then. All first and second gen wood stocked guns had the RKW.

March 1978 for the barrel. Should be late first generation checkering style and rollmarking.

Re: Remington Custom Shop & 11-87’s

As of right now Remington is awaiting sale at auction due to their bankruptcy filing. They may not exist. The factory in New York is shut down for the Corona virus and the damned governor has deemed them non-essential - to hell with the jobs.
