Re: black powder question
Hi .22-5-40 Thanks for your concern. I have no ill effects whatsoever in fact my only feeling at the time was 'that felt srange'. Then I noticed that the Barrel was missing. The burst was just in front of my fingers on the forend..no injury. I had two Swedish sporters and this was the best one. I ha...

Re: black powder question
I shoot Rolling Blocks in 2 calibres. 43 Egyptian and 12.7X44R Swedish. I have used Nitro, Pyrodex and Black powder. The rolling block has to be the easiest rifle in the world to 'boil out' so that leaves nitro out. Black Powder is the real deal. Smells nice to./ Pyrodex rots brass cartridge cases ...

Re: Remington Mid-Range
Here in Britain all guns sold, whether newor used, must have been proofed. This does not apply to antique guns sold as curios of decororation. The proof marks have to be on the main components on a rifle that is barrel and action. As to the effect on value. This is a personal thing. Ifd the proofs w...

Re: Cold blue
My guns are just that...MY guns. I do not sell anymore and they will be with me while I still have a pulse. They are listed so that my family can sell them at the appropriate time. That list explains any work I have done on them. As I shoot or have shot every gun I own I like them to be presentable....

Re: 40-50 sharps
If you simply want to know wether it is straight or bottleneck, simply make a wad of rag or paper toweling and push it through with a rod. You should feel a bottleneck.

Re: Remington rolling block -additional information
I am embarrassed... It must have been a senior moment.... On checking my Egyptian Rolling Block i found that the barrel bands are stampted with a 'U' and not a crown. That must have been a previous one...oops.

I have a Rolling Block in 43 Egyptian with a crown on each barrel band???tjack wrote:Sounds like you have a standard Spanish contract Rolling Block. The crowns on the barrel bands indicate it went to Spain. The F8925 on the tangs are assembly numbers. The F and P are inspector stamps.

Re: Springfield 1871 RB - would love to shoot it, but should
If the round you choose is the same as original factory ammo you, and your gun, should be safe. The round was intended to be shot in a trapdoor Springfiels rifle and they were nowhere near as strong an action as the Rolling Block. The only thing I feel inclined to warn you about is that shooting a R...

A bit too soon for that type of humour especially as UK gun owners have been through it twice before and lost ownership rights each time.DavidFagan wrote:Need to tell the taxi cab driver that.
