Re: Late production model 95 double derringer

Correct, that there are some typos in my reply. Along with a couple of brain farts! :( Your gun is polished, so it should be a second variation. I have no idea why the MZ got typed. It is KZ, and that is May of 1931. Now I need to go and wipe the egg off of my face! Sorry for the unnecessary confusi...

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model

Hi Patbar,

Is the Remington marking on the BBL in 2 lines, or 3 lines, and if 3 lines, what patent date is used, 1858, or 1863?

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Late production model 95 double derringer

Hello, Nice Double Derringer. Your gun is a fourth model, fourth variation. First variation has no L prefix serials. Second variation has the L prefix, with bright blue finish, third variation has a matte blue finish, and the fourth variation is the monoblock with no side rib. Remington went to the ...

Re: New in box 380 51

The anchor stamp is the mark of Remington inspector, Frank Anchor. It is not a naval mark.
Enjoy that fine pistol.

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model

Hi Patbar,

Those same markings would lead me to believe that they were in house inspection marks. The Gov inspectors stamped their mark on all the major parts.

We'll probably never know unless some kind of factory records turn up.

Re: Question regarding the Remington Belt Model

Hi Patbar, I'm not familiar with the contracts, so I can't comment on that, but if it was bought on a US contract there should be more inspector's marks. There should be a mark on the frame exterior, cylinder, the bbl, and the trigger guard. The initial on the inside is probably a factory mark of un...

Re: Remington Model 44 New Army Serial 88,781 - Was in used in combat?

Hi Docent, The short answer is no, because of the need for research. Your pistol was made in July, 1864, so maybe. First check the gun for inspectors’ marks, a single letter on the several of he parts. The marks indicate that the gun was a US purchase. The left lower grip will also have a cartouhe, ...

Bonjour Pourriez-vous s'il vous plaît poster quelques photos de l'arme, et peut-être alors nous pourrons peut-être en dire plus?

Merci
Daniel

Hello,
Could you please post some pictures of the gun, and maybe then we may be able to tell more ?

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: rem.navy 32986 historia

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw your post. Your pistol was made in Sept 1865. Navy Model Production for US contracts stopped at about 33,600 in Dec.1865. From warm, wet Michigan. Ledsen för det sena svaret, jag såg just ditt inlägg. Din pistol tillverkades i september 1865. Navy Model Productio...

If the number is 22079, it was made in May 1863. Does the bbl number match the other numbers?

Re: Numbers matching 36 cal. 1858 but when was it made?

Hi Yes,, the single,, small letters are inspector's marks. I don't see an inspector's cartouche on the left grip, but it may have been worn off, or a bad angle in the pic. Your serial, 33079, was made in Oct. of 1865, so well after the CW had ended. The gun may have been assembled with previously in...

Re: Remington RB Ingersoll Life Line Gun 1890

Surprising that no one mentioned to check the maker's markings. If the frame is marked, "E Remington & Sons," or "Remingtons", it is made before 1888, and thus an antique. If it is marked, "Remington Arms Company" it may or may not be an antique, and an ATF check wo...

Re: Remington Lee Navy Contract Bayonet

Hi Chet, From the book, "Bayonets of the Remington Cartridge Period," by Jerry L. Janzen, the US required that the M-1873, Trapdoor, angular bayonets be used. The 1879, 1882, and 1885 Rem-Lee rifles used this bayonet. For the 1899 Rem-Lee 6mm. rifle, a short, (210mm blade) knife blade bayo...

Re: Remington 1875

Hi James, I hope that you get a good price on the pair. To add to what Bill T posted, the 45 government is a bastardized cartridge made because the Army also adopted the S&W Schofield revolver. Both then and now, many people believe that the 45 govt is the Schofield cartridge, but it is actually...
