Re: question on replacing stock on model 1894
The first question to answer is the overall condition of the gun. If it shows average wear or more and you'll be using it as a shooter I'd use the A stock and not worry about the checkering.

Re: Model 1900
The information/examples Researcher supplied applies to both model 1900's as well as 1894's. The top three examples he offers show variations of 1900 K grade model barrel stampings while the bottom five show variations found on 1894 grades. Remington did not make a trap grade model 1900. Your 1900 i...

Re: Trying to ID an old Remington Double-Barrel Shotgun
Have been thinking about what you might have. First the lock plates and hammers not matching is troubling. I suppose there are those out there in Forum land that can address this issue better than I can. Also, I don't know if the use of back action locks was typical of Remington. Finally, arms were ...

Re: Trying to ID an old Remington Double-Barrel Shotgun
Wonderful piece of wood!!
Can't really tell from the pictures but are the hammers the same and is the right lock plate engraved the same way the left lock is?

Re: dating of 1874 to 1880 side by side
Welcome to the forum! Three lifter models started with S/N 1 1873 - 1 to 5000 1875 - 1 to 3350 1878 - 1 to 2400 The hammers are a very good guide to model ID. The 1873 hammers will have recessed faces similar to percussion guns whereas all others models have a flat face. It would be helpful if you c...

Re: Correct CCH/Bluing treatment of all pieces of 1894
I seem to recall that the trigger guard and top lever came both ways - blued and CCH. Other than the triggers, all of other the external metal parts were CCH (action body, trigger plate, forearm iron and all screws). Steel barrels were blued and damascus barrels were rust blued. I've refinished seve...

Re: Reinforcing pin in stock cheeks - Models 1894 and 1900
It seems that this is a weak spot for most SxS's of this era whether LC's, Parkers, LeFevers etc etc. This was also true of the percussion SxS's. Seems that these were perfect designs to insure weakness. Of course this is how these weapons evolved and it wasn't until the box lock came on the scene t...

Re: Help dating some hammerless
I don't think you need much spring action. Just enough to keep the safety slide in place. Try bending it a bit. Much of the work is done by gravity. There should be parts out there but a spring to do the job should be easy to fabricate. Might not look like the original but it will get the job done. ...

Re: New to the form question about 1894 doubles
Well Mike it appears you have another one of the mystery guns out there. Your A grade with 26" barrels was made in '05 while the A grade with shorter barrels wasn't offered in the catalogues we have on hand until '08 - '09. Too bad we don't have actual production or shipping records!!

Re: help with re-assembly of Model 1900
It's been awhile since I've had any of my '94's or 1900's apart. But I did drag out a semi inletted stock. The spring is held in place by the wood screw and is mounted on the flat area in front of the hole where the safety rocker passes through. The spring bears down on the plunger to hold it in pla...

Re: New to the form question about 1894 doubles
Mike, sorry about the barrel length comment. I was using the info on page 132. Question is whether the info on page 158 applies to grade D only or to '94's in general. If in general, when was the 26" 12 GA barrel introduced?

Re: New to the form question about 1894 doubles
Good to hear your stock replacement went well. In my case I have a semi-inletted stock which I don't think will work because the sides will be soooooo thin. It won't go to waste as I have another restock project. I did contact a stock maker (macongunstocks.com) and they have both sizes. I assume oth...

Re: New to the form question about 1894 doubles
Well, now we have established that "lite" 12's were made for both A grade '94's and late production 1900's. Anyone out there have or know of a '94 lite 12 of higher grade or earlier 1900 production? BrownWM -- on another matter -- have you restocked your '94? My 1900 has a replacement stoc...
