Re: New Guy and SURPRISE! I have a "ID my RB" question
This gun has one of the early receivers before Remington started to stamp them with the 1871 patent dates. All of the New York State rolling block rifles were made with 36" barrels and they had 3 barrel bands on the forearm. Your rifle barrel and forearm have been cut down sometime after they w...

Re: New Guy and SURPRISE! I have a "ID my RB" question
Here is a photo of the 1871 Patent date stamped on the lower tang of my rifle. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo it was taken about 15 years ago. I will try to take a better photo in the up coming days. It reads
PATD AUG 27th 1867
NOV 7th 1871
Have a Good Day,

Re: New Guy and SURPRISE! I have a "ID my RB" question
Most were made in 50-70, some of the later ones that may of been purchased by individual National Guard members were chambered in 45-70. Page_10.jpg The very first New York State model rolling block rifles were made with the last patent dated ending in 1866 on the upper tang. The safety feature that...

It's a New York State Model rolling block rifle.
Here is a photo of some of them that I had on display at a gun show.

Re: Rolling Block Rifle - Unable to Identify
They made some of the cadet rifles with rear sights and some with out rear sight. Here is a photo of my cadet rifle with the rear sight that I had on display at a gun show in 2012.

Re: Early round top Sporting Rifle
Here are 2 more photos of the 2 piece trigger guard. I don't know how it is attached to the bottom tang, there are no posts from the trigger guard going up through the tang to secure it in place.

Re: Early round top Sporting Rifle
Hello Marlinman93,
Yes it has the longer lower tang with the extra wood screw as found on most sporting rifle.
I don't think that they made to many with the 2 piece trigger guard. Maybe Remington was trying out a new design that didn't work out.

Re: Trying to reconstruct a 1870 Springfield Trials Carbine
I would like to thank Dick and Ed for the response to my question about sling bar. It looks like I will be looking for one from the Sharps carbine. I am planning on going to the Baltimore Antique Gun Show, so I am hoping to find the bar there and the screw for the Sharps bar. That way I will have th...

Trying to reconstruct a 1870 Springfield Trials Carbine
I have a 1870 Springfield Trials Carbine receiver that I am trying to rebuild with original and reproduction parts. Does anyone know what gun the sling bar may of been made from by Springfield Armory. From photos that I have seen, it looks like it could of been modified from a sharps carbine. In the...
