Re: 1873 whitmore price check

What is that Damascus pattern called ? Maybe Researcher will chime in. Well, it's been awhile - did you beat him down and buy it ? You're not gonna find very many graded 1873s.

Re: 1873 whitmore price check

You stop and think, 1100 isn't all that bad. I think the Remingtons are way under priced. How many of the 73 graded guns do you think were made ? Or for that matter, how many Remington graded SxSs of any year. I don't think Remington catered to the upper class, but more to the working man who bought...

Re: 1873 whitmore price check

I bought one like yours [ grade 3 or 4 ] about 3 months ago for 800. The Damascus pattern wasn't as visible as yours. The bores were a little shiny - got it home and found out the chokes were opened up a little. I've had three of them over the years, but the other two had 1.5 DAC and 2.25 DAH. I lik...

Re: 1894 FE Grade

I think Semmer claimed Remington never offered a beavertail forearm. All of my FEs came with the short stock - 13+" range and lots of drop. The drop was fine with me seeing how I shoot with a erect head. All my doubles have around 3" of DAH. It's the short stocks that bug me. Being a littl...

Re: FE Trap restoration

Hey, I have a friend who could use a anti-flinch pad. Too bad it still isn't made. Does someone make a Silvers look a like, or period correct looking pads ?

Re: 1894 FE Grade

AH, beavertail forearms on their trap grade guns. I have two FEs with beavertail forearms, one with a splinter. I have to admit, they come in handy. Guess back then they weren't concerned about owners opinions a hundred years later. I noticed in Researchers post that they came with stocks in the 13&...

If you're looking for a reply - nice looking collection of shells, or boxes of shells, and the forearm on your 89 needs some attention.

Re: Bent hammer

It depends how much it needs to be bent. A little, do it cold. A lot, heat er up. I'd leave it in a vise and heat just the neck with a torch. Two people would make it much easier. One to apply the heat and one to bend. A piece of leather could be used in the jaws of a crescent wrench, vise grips, or...

Re: I believe I have a 1894 that will not fire consistently

I could be wrong, but the piece of metal near the back of the forearm normally isn't there on a original forearm.

Re: Chamber length on Model 1889 10-gauge ?

Cornmeal or cream of wheat is used for a filler in BP revolvers when loading light charges. With a .44cal NMA Remington if one is loading under 25grs the loading lever won't push the ball down far enough to seat on the powder so a filler is added. At least when I loaded for target shooting with a 20...

Re: Chamber length on Model 1889 10-gauge ?

All BP loads, either RB, slug, or in shotshells, should always have the projectile tight against the powder without any gap. You don't want the exploding powder to expand before it hits a resistance. It's quite easy with shotgun shells. Just put enough wads in the shell to get the correct height for...
