Re: Date of Manufacturer Please

Hi txtarpon,

Your gun, 48433, was made in Dec. 1863. The sub-inspectors' mark indicate that it was a government contract gun, but there is no list of what units got what guns, so that's all that we can know about your gun.

Re: Remington New Model Army date of manufacturing

Hello Fabrizio, Your guns was made in June of 1864. The serial is in three places, under the barrel, on the lower, left grip frame, and on the trigger guard tab. US government sub-inspectors stamped a single letter on the barrel, cylinder, and frame, and there is a cartouche on the lower let grip fo...

Re: new model 1858 44

Hi cloverleaf, Your serial, 11329 was made in Feb. 1863. The serial numbers started with the Beals Models, and continued sequentially to the end of production of the Army revolvers. Don Ware’s book on the large Frame revolvers, shows a total of 13,100 Beals, 1861s, and 1861 to New Model transitions ...

Re: 1858 Rem .31 Pocket revolver

Hi Willego, Since there are no records of gun purchases for civilian sales, so there is no way to know who has owned this gun in the past. You can get a name or two by backtracking, Ask the people that you got the gun from, the name of the owner, and if there is any oral history of the gun. Other th...

Re: 1858 Rem .31 Pocket revolver

Hi Williego, Because the serial number is so high, it should be a New Model Pocket Revolver. They were made from 1863 to 1873 or 74 as percussion guns. After that, they were made as .32 rf revolvers. Yours should have an iron frame and an iron trigger guard, and it looks a lot like a miniature New M...

Re: Remington NM

Hi Ivory Rem, New Model Army serial 52013, was made in Jan. 1864. The small, stamped letters are the mark of a government sub-inspector. There should also be a cartouche on the lower left grip, the mark of the final inspector, but it may have worn off, or the grips replaced. The inspectors' marks me...

Re: Remington ivory

Hello, Since the trigger guard and frame are the same, I'd guess that the bbl was replaced at some point, before the gun was engraved. Remington always offered real ivory grips as an option on all of their handguns. I don't know it Remington made the grips, or if Remington had the grips made for the...

Re: Remington ivory

Hello, It looks like a New Model Army. By the serial numbers, the BBL was made in Jan. 1864, and the frame was made in August of 1864. Obviously the BBL was replaced at some time. There will also be a serial number on the tab of the trigger guard, it should match one of the other numbers.. I'm no ex...

Re: Remington Lee 45/70 Model 1885 Navy Rifle

Noticed that your rifle has a canvas sling. Do you know if that it original? My 85 has a leather sling, and I think that every 82 and 85 that I've seen has a leather sling. I just wonder when they went to the canvas slings.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi BThompson, Send me your email and I’ll send you some info that is too long to post here. aardqe5 at gmail. We do not give any value estimates unless we can personally examine the gun, so no value estimate here. Condition affects value, and so does rarity, but, demand is what determines value. If ...

Hi,

You'll get better results if you post this in the correct section, instead of the post 1898 Handgun section.

Re: Bought an 1865 & Looking for Info

Hi Todd, The bbl and frame numbers match, so I'd guess the trigger guard also matches. The trigger guard has to be removed, and the number will be on the little tab, at the rear of the trigger guard that fits into the frame. It's no unusual for the grips to be replaced. the cartouche will be 2 or 3 ...

Re: Bought an 1865 & Looking for Info

Hi Todd, Your pistol is a New Model Army, and was made Feb of 1865. Production ended in March of 1865. Your pistol has Gov sub-inspector's marks so it was made on a Gov contract. The left grip will have a cartouche of the final inspector's acceptance mark. I agree that it was re-blued, and the front...
