Great job Researcher. You have older catalogs than I do. :)

Re: Long Range Model 11 (2 shot?)

No such thing as a two shot Model 11, but the Sportsman will only hold two in the magazine. Remington just labelled some barrels long range. Usually they are a good 2-3/4" Full choke barrel.

Re: Remington 870 forend on a model 31

No as an assembly. The wood probably could be modified to fit on the 31 tube.

Re: Engraved 870 WM

It was during that time frame. That's the standard Remington pattern. It did not catch on and they went back to smooth bluing on the Wingmaster.

Re: Improperly marked 870?

Any and all possibilities are real. I have three Remington shotgun barrels with no date coding and I did have 5; 3 came on the guns from the factory. My theory is that when the rollmarking person went on break, vacation, or was out sick the rest of the line kept right on rolling. I do not think that...

There never was a buffer, either in the bolt or the receiver. I see no evidence of the bolt contacting the receiver.

Re: Another 1100 Inquiry

I had quite a bit of custom barrel and choke work done by Stan, and visited with him a couple of times in Seattle. I learned a bit from him and Ralph Walker both. Both fine gentlemen.

Re: Another 1100 Inquiry

Receiver is a 2-3/4" version, made from 1968 to 1974. Best guess 1970. Barrel was made January 2002.

Re: Manufacture date of 870 12 ga

Prefix means as in before the numbers. So CC is the prefix. It is not in the chart because Remington scrapped the old numbering/lettering system, and no one has figured out any rhyme or reason to what they went to that has any value. The suffix on everything for a while was RS, which was said to ind...

Re: Manufacture date of 870 12 ga

I do not know how old it is, but it is NOT 25 years old. Back then they were still using the old reasonably sensible system of serial numbering. No barrel date means nothing. I have several like that going back to the 1960s.

Unfortunately, I agree 100% with your comment as well. Don't forget the "home defense shotgun butchers" either.

Re: Remington model 31 barrel fit

A good gunsmith doesn't have to have ever seen or worked on a model of gun to be able to repair one. You look at it, you figure out how it is supposed to work, you figure out what's wrong, and fix it.
I am a retired gunsmith.
