Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
Took the Cadet down to it's basic pieces today and cleaned a lot of dried up oil out of it, but found it very clean inside. Once I got it sprayed out with brake clean, and then oiled it went together easier than it came apart. Dug through my parts bins and found a sling loop that was a good copy for...

Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
Thanks. I wonder if an old socket bayonet could be altered to fit a Remington like this Cadet by taking it apart, and doing modifications to the opening, and maybe sleeve the diameter ID. We have a monthly collector gun show here and I see socket bayonets at almost every show, so if I can't find the...

Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
Thanks for that info. I was going from pictures, and saw mention of socket type bayonets, so figured they looked like the Trapdoor. Guess I'll have to see if I can locate a socket style that's for a Remington. Guys at our monthly collector show here always have bayonets on their tables, so I'll take...

Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
I also discovered a 1903 ad from M. Hartley & Co. in New York for surplus military stores and equipment. The ad states they are selling these No. 206 Cadet rifles in .45-70 for $9 and states the guns are 25-30 years old, which would date these to early 1870's when sold new. Notice the Trapdoor S...

Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
Hi There, There were several Cadet models. If yours is a .50-70 then it's likely it's one of those built on the same action as the Rolling Block pistols. They also made one on the #4 Rolling Blocks that was in .22RF. Both of those are seen on occasion and easier to find than the one built on the 1 ...

Re: #1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
Hi There, Thank you for the measurement. I not familiar with the cadet model. I have one in my collection that I have been trying to identify. It has a thinner than normal #1 action and has a 31" barrel in 50-70. Cheers! Webb There were several Cadet models. If yours is a .50-70 then it's like...

#1 1/2 Rolling Block Cadet Rifle
I just won this rifle at a local auction, and very happy to find one as they're a rare bird! It's a #1 1/2 Sporting Rifle action, buttplate and buttstock that Remington used along with a 28" military style barrel and forearm assembly to sell to military academies back in the 1800's. I've seen o...

Re: The Creedmoor's
The Creedmoor globe sights were windage adjustable, and usually had a spirit level also. Rear long-range tang sights had no windage and the front sights did the windage adjustment. Your dad's rifle is still a wonderful guns, and if originally a .40-50 would be classified as a Short-Range rifle. The ...

Re: The Creedmoor's
It does have some features of a Creedmoor model, except for the original .46RF chambering. That would never have been a cartridge ever used by any Creedmoor shooter as it's too anemic to reach 800-1000 yds. accurately. It is indeed around the same serial number range, but so were a lot of other non ...

Re: 1901 Remington Hubalek pistol
Hi Marlinman93, It is just easier to say that all RB pistols were made by ERS, and thus before 1888, rather than get into what happened, and in which years. It's simple, all RB pistils are antiques. Thanks for the Hulabek info. I spent some time online researching him. Very interesting man. Makes m...

Re: 1901 Remington Hubalek pistol
Hi Marlinman93, Here's some info from Landskron's book on the RB pistols. ALL RB pistol frames were made by E. Remington & Sons! So all RB frames were made before 1888, thus no matter what model number, or what year it was assembled into a firearm, they are all antiques. This is by the 1968 law...

1901 Remington Hubalek pistol
Recently won this Hubalek modified 1901 target pistol at an online auction. It is marked "A.HUBALEK" on the top barrel flat and has a very extensively modified grip frame to change it from a one piece grip to a three piece grip. The grips consist of two side panels, and a closely fitted ce...

1867 Rolling Block pistol
At our collector show last Sunday a friend told me of two Rolling Block pistols he saw for sale at a local gun shop. He said he wanted one, but the seller didn't want to sell them separately, so he was bummed about it. I asked about details, condition, price, what model? He couldn't answer all the q...

Re: Old Hepburn project
It is a credit to you.As a collector a Hepburn is on my 'Bucket list' but due to my age (80) the bucket is quite close. Geoff . I'm not far behind you at 73 now. I've been fortunate to be able to purchase 3 other Hepburns since I built this one back when I couldn't find one I could afford. I'd own ...
