It would be helpful to indicate the model of gun involved. For example, S/N 314196 could be for a Model 1900 SxS shotgun made in 1901.

Your 1900 was built about mid 1902. The K stands for K grade while the D indicates it has Damascus barrels. The absence of an E (as in KED) means your 1900 has extractors rather than ejectors. What weight variation do you observe? I use a RCBS measure with good results. However if I want extremely consistent results the powder for each round is weighed.

What's wrong with it? If it's not a higher grade it's most likely not worth the effort unless there some family or other sentimental value. I'd just clean/lub it and enjoy.
