Re: Model 1874?

According to Semmer's book "Remington Double Shotguns" there was no model 1874. In any event, all Remington DBL shotguns until 1882 are referred to as lifter models as a lever was raised to open the gun. In 1882 Remington introduced the common rotary lever to break the gun. The production ...

Shotshell loader

I know this is a bit off subject but ------ I just bought 18 loaders. Most were various MECs, Pacifics and Texans. There is one unknown. The molded rubber handle says Super Jet. I googled it and there was one produced by Lachmiller in the '60s but it operates in a linear fashion while this one uses ...

Re: Needing some assistance please

It would be helpful to indicate the model of gun involved. For example, S/N 314196 could be for a Model 1900 SxS shotgun made in 1901.

Re: Owner of a Model 1900 serial No. 328143

Your 1900 was built about mid 1902. The K stands for K grade while the D indicates it has Damascus barrels. The absence of an E (as in KED) means your 1900 has extractors rather than ejectors. The symbols /// and P are somewhat unknown. There should be numbers stamped on the barrel lugs which indica...

Re: I recently acquired an 1871 Rolling Block

There are so many variations of this gun. To help, we need photos & S/N plus any other additional info you can provide (caliber, type of casing etc.).

Re: 141 in 35 rem. loads

What weight variation do you observe? I use a RCBS measure with good results. However if I want extremely consistent results the powder for each round is weighed.

Re: Newly Aquired Model 11

What's wrong with it? If it's not a higher grade it's most likely not worth the effort unless there some family or other sentimental value. I'd just clean/lub it and enjoy.

Re: Newly Aquired Model 11

Should be safe to shoot but you may want to have it checked by a smith to make sure. Ammo? Depends on what you want to do. Trap? Skeet? Rabbits? ???

Re: Remington 1889 shotgun in great cond.

The grade of '89s is stamped across from the SN on the water table. The '89 was offered off-the-shelf in three grades -- #1 - decarbonized steel barrels, #2 - twist steel and #3 - Damascus steel barrels. In addition the wood quality improved as the grades progressed. None of these grades had any eng...

Re: Remington Model 1889

Yes, special order would be needed. If this was the case the barrels would be stamped in a similar manner and also be stamped 1 & 2. Many times guns were returned to Ilion to have a second barrel fitted. In this case the stamping might not be as similar. In any case the degree of choke should be...

Re: Remington Model 1889

I would say that it is not common for 2 barrel sets leaving the factory at the same time especially for lower grade guns. Off the shelf the '89 came in three grades based on barrel material. Lowest grade was Grade 1 and came with decarbonized steel barrels. Grade 2 with twist steel and Grade 3 came ...

Re: 1894 ejector takedown?

Hammers/firing pins in the early years were one piece. As I recall both the '94s and 1900s converted to hammers with separate firing pins about 1904-5. The early hammers have firing pins that are offset thus there are right and left barrel hammers. Also as a result of different action body sizes for...

Yes it will. Not too hard to tear-down but shouldn't be necessary for a good clean/lubricate.

Re: Waterfowl Hunt with your Vintage SxS

Question. Would steel shot be required? I'm not sure how our SxSs would hold up.
