Re: LOADING & FEEDING OF THE MODEL 14/141

Trust me, it looks a lot better now!

Hope you didn't mind my putting that up there, it continues to amaze me as to the modifications folks made to keep these old guns working. This one has a lot of character and should be good for years to come.

Regards!

This is a first, a right side mounted "left handed" take down screw.

Thought I would pass on the pics for entertainment purposes, hope the show up since I have little experience in adding them to forum postings.

Re: LOADING & FEEDING OF THE MODEL 14/141

Dan! Email me at nambujim@carolina.rr.com and we can discuss the problems with your rifle but there is no doubt in my mind it is readily fixable. I don't do this as a living but rather a hobby since their are not enough Model 14/141's to keep me in business full time, they are the ONLY model I work ...

LOADING & FEEDING OF THE MODEL 14/141

In the last few days I have received four (4) emails/phone calls relating to this subject, all of which are ammunition related, and almost all of those pertained to ammunition acquired from a reputable firm. The "custom" loaded rounds of .30, .32, & 35 Remington had one thing in common...

Re: Model 14 Date of Manufacture

Here's the deal, because of the feed system in these rifles (particularly with the early ones) they will not feed well with anything but ROUND NOSE bullets! The rifles don't like lead bullets................don't use them unless you are going to fire them single shot. It is worth noting that even th...

Re: Model 14 Date of Manufacture

Roger that, saw the rifle on Gunbroker a week or so ago and you're right it was a good deal I just didn't associate it with your inquiry. Here are my tips for a new Model 14 owner: You will find that Remington ammunition seems to work the best, don't know why that's the case but I think its related ...

Re: Model 14 Date of Manufacture

I guess the question you're asking is when was this rifle manufactured, based on the serial mid-1913. What I'm not sure about is your mention of the .301 Bullet drop, the calibers of these guns were clearly marked on the left side of the barrel and on the brass shell head on the left side of the rec...

Re: Need a model 14 firing pin

Gas! The answer to your question is "yes" I have some and there always seems to be some listed on the auction sites such as Gunbroker. Because of recent history with selling parts I only sell them as part of a "repair job", some of the reasonss for that are described in the follo...

Re: Remington 25 carbine

Hi! The topcoat used was a clear nitrocellulose based lacquer, Duponts TM for it was "Duco". That's the easy part, you will see stocks in a variety of colors ranging from honey colored to Hickory/red. If the fore end hasn't been messed with I would "suggest" you match the stock t...

Re: Model 12 action bar damaged threads

"Sap" pretty much has it right this time! Remington used a lot of thread sizes that are not readily available today but in some cases you can get something close enough to do the job. I re-cut threads on Model 14 action bars all the time using taps I ordered from the UK and they work nicel...

Re: Factory 14 1/2 R modifications?

Of course Hemphill has it right, when it comes to sorting out this kind of stuff, he's the best. Adding to the "for whatever its worth" department, I have seen at least three guns that had hook/lever safeties with serials pre-dating the changeover to that system. I think I still own one of...

Re: Remington model 25 autoload

Cold! You have an "early" Model 14 manufactured in 1913. Any Model 14 in .25 Remington is worth more than what you paid so you did OK. For ammunition you have a number of choices: 1) You can purchase original factory "collector grade" ammo from various sources such as gun shows o...

Re: Model 14 problem

Frank! There are those of us that want to be helpful and then there is this thing called "liability" where we provide advice in writing that results in less than favorable results. If I had the rifle in my shop I could clear it for you, haven't had one yet that I couldn't clear but then th...
